KKK:
The Ku Klux Klan, also known as The KKK, is a large all white racial group that was created in 1866. They were in every Southern state by 1870. Members wear white robes, masks, and pointy hats. The first clan was just a rebel terrorist group that only focused on segregation from black people, they still believed in slavery and felt they were superior to blacks. The second group spread around the nation (excluding Alaska and Hawai’i). Then they escalated to violence, vandalism, and acts of terrorism. Many members were apprehended. More members were being sworn in everyday.
They used terrorism as a way to get the publics attention. They often attacked people that weren't all white. Blacks, Mexicans, Asians, and Jews, were all targeted by the KKK. They believed in white supremacy. The robes and masks hid their identities. They worked to end black voting, and black entertainment. Their alias is “The Loyal White Knights.”
In 1871 President Grant sent federal troops to stop violence the KKK had started, he ordered members to split up in five days, then arrested over 600 members. In 1964, KKK members Charles Marcus Edwards and James Ford Seale, were arrested for murder. In 2007, “Klansman” James Ford Seale was charged for kidnapping and conspiracy and was later sentenced to life in prison. In 2008, KKK member Raymond Foster was arrested for murder.
